Lawrence of Arabia
Lawrence of Arabia is a tremendous portrait of leadership and serves as a warning to those who are so willing to lead others into battle.
The Worst Person in the World
It takes a moment to fully appreciate the character of Julie (the fantastic) Renate Reinsve) in The Worst Person in the World. She's a character that very much exists in this world that we often don't get to see on screen.
Ski Patrol
It's funny when you revisit a movie from your youth. I probably haven't seen Ski Patrol since I was ten. Up to this point, I couldn't have told you what happened in this movie, but as I rewatched this movie, it was incredible how many memories came flooding back.
Cha Cha Real Smooth
Even though I haven't seen his first feature, Cooper Raiff is a director who has a style that I'm naturally drawn to. It made sense that he has a major connection to Jay Duplass because Cha Cha Real Smooth reminded me of the same awkward humor and charm of the Duplass brothers.
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Complex, but approachable. Absurd, but relatable. Unique, but familiar. There are so many words that came to mind when I finished Everything Everywhere All at Once, yet I couldn't pinpoint the perfect one. I was stunned by what I experienced. This movie is an assault on all your senses in all the right ways.
Listening to Kenny G
I loved the question that this documentary poses. What do you associate with Kenny G’s music? For me, it was listening to my parent’s CD, Breathless, as a child as we cleaned the house on Saturday mornings.
Jurassic World Dominion
Jurassic World Dominion was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but that in no way makes it great. Everything is more puzzling than anything. Not that it's confusing, but I'm befuddled by the decisions that director Colin Trevorrow and his crew make.
Lightyear
Lightyear is a more straightforward space adventure which will either enamor a child's attention or not. Even though the side characters, and especially Sox, get most of the laughs and the memorable scenes, this movie contains a lot of action set pieces that are interesting, but not enthralling.
The Card Counter
Paul Schrader did it to me again. He has written and directed a film that you think is one thing and is completely different. Yes, The Card Counter is about a professional gambler, but not really.
The Bad Guys
I didn't get anything out of The Bad Guys. I didn't think it was funny. I didn't think it was exciting. I didn't think it was awful. It was just fine.
Fire Island
If somebody is willing to take a chance on a film like Fire Island, they won't only have an entertaining experience, it'll draw them in that much closer to realizing that we are more alike than different.
The Northman
There's a lot to appreciate and there are many memorable moments (in particular a new yard game that I've never seen), but the themes of revenge and legacy didn't resonate with me. I think Eggers is better off presenting puzzles than emulating a Shakespearean tragedy.
Top Gun: Maverick
This movie may actual save the movie theater business. Not so much that it's the greatest movie of all time, but more so because it will remind you of why you enjoy going to the movies so much.
A League of Their Own
This was a movie from my youth and I probably haven't seen it since high school. I thought it completely held up and does an amazing job of telling this story. The cast is superb and I miss the type of films that have large ensembles, but where you can still differentiate between characters easily.
